Frequently asked questions
israel has been occupying Palestinian land for decades. They have repeatedly flouted international law, and have been enacting the genocide of Palestinian people for decades. israel's economy is bolstered by corporations where the zionist lobby has either attained potisions as or influenced decision makers to either move operations to israel, contract with israeli companies, or purchase israeli startups, pumping billions into the israeli economy. We don't need to support this. We have unlimited options for every consumer brand on the market. The less we spend with the companies who invest in israel, the less israel has to invest in its occupation of Palestine.
Yes. Company decisions to divest from israel in the past were directly attributed to boycott pressure. Even if they don't divest, they will be forced to spend money on PR and lobbying to counter the boycott. And at the very least, they will have less of our money to invest in israel.
We add brands to our boycott list for the following reasons only: They are an israeli company based on israeli occupied Palestinian land. Any company which invests in or acquires israeli companies. Any company which supports the israeli apartheid government or military by providing infrastructure, equipment, weapons, technology etc. Any company which partners with israeli companies when there is a reasonable alternative. Any company taking advantage of the occupation of Palestine for profit or agenda. Any company which invests in boycotted companies even under boycott pressure. Any company which sells in israel after making political decisions to withdraw from other countries such as Russia. We do not add companies which simply sell in israel, as they would be effectively taking profits out of the economy. If the company sells in israel and is neutral in all other global issues, then we would not add them to the list. However, if they produce the products in israel to sell to israelis, then this would qualify for boycott as they are adding value to israels economy.
We didn't implement a scoring system or tier system because every company has a choice to operate in or with israel or not. If they choose to, then they are complicit in supporting the zionist state whether by supporting the IDF with free food, or investing billions of dollars into the economy. However, for people who want to boycott those companies, sometimes it is just not possible, so instead of telling you which is bad and which is worse, we give you the reason so you can decide for yourself. Eg. if the medicine you rely on was rated 🔴 and there is no alternative, but the coffee house of your choice was rated 🟡, then our rating system would be meaningless for you.
Boycotting everything starting tomorrow is not practical. This list is not meant to be studied or for you to go around your home, throwing things away. In fact, if you already own products on the list, keep them and use them. You have already paid for them, and its ok. But next time you want to make a purchase, check if its on the list, and try the alternative. Support local businesses who don't invest in apartheid and genocide.
Sometimes boycotting a product that you need is not practical. Maybe you don't have an alternative, or maybe you can't afford it. That's ok. We are not here to judge you. We are here to raise awareness and encourage you to make a change where you can. If you can't boycott a product, then at least try to how much of it you use. And if you can't do that, then at least try to raise awareness so others might use it less.
The law around calling for boycott varies between different states and countries. We cannot give you legal advice, so please check in your locality, what you can or can't say. However, you absolutely have a right to make decisions about where you spend your own money.
We were surprised at how many companies are complicit in so many ways in the israeli occupation of Palestine. We have tried to include as many as possible, but there are so many more. If anything, this should be a wake up call to how much we have been sucked into unconscious consumerism.
No. Incase you hadn't notice, the state of israel and the occupied territories have huge borders and checkpoints. Any proposal for 2 states would look just like it does today with israel exercising its power over the Palestinian people who it has suppressed for so many decades. We support a single state solution where all people have equal rights. All Palestinians who were displaced should have a right to return to the land, and democratic elections should dictate who leads the country in which all 14 million Palestinians and 7 million jews are able to vote, which is likely to result in a majority Palestinian vote. This is the only way to achieve peace.
The state of israel as it exists today operates an apartheid against the indigenous Palestinians. Throughout history, Muslims, jews and Christians have lived side by side in peace. In fact, Muslims invited jews to return to live in Jerusalem after the crusaders killed all the jews who lived there before. Muslims ruled the land and respected the jews and Christians, encouraging them to practice their faith. However the zionists are not peaceful people, and wish to eradicate the Palestinians from the land. They had their chance to prove to the world that they can rule fairly, and they failed. So we will strive for the state of israel to cease and desist, and for Palestine to become a home for peaceful Arabs and peaceful jews to live with equal rights together.
Whilst the media lies and suggests that it means to rid the jews from Palestine, it actually means that all Palestinians will be free from their current oppressed situation all over Palestine. As they had done for 800 years already, any jews who wish to live in peace with their Arab neighbours would be welcome to stay.
Zionism is the desire to create a jewish state. This could have been anywhere in the world, and we would imagine a jewish state in the USA would have left the rest of the world in peace. However, it was decided by the British that the state should be in the middle of Arab nations who zionists hate. And there were several communities of millions living there already who had no say in the matter.
No. Arabs and jews are both 'semites', and we aren't against either. We are just 'ziophobic'.... well it's a word now!
